Denver Trip Update

Trip Recap

We’re back from a great Vision Trip to Denver. Thank you for your prayers, especially those who committed to pray specifically as part of our Project100 team. We asked people to pray for three things in particular: Location, Links, and Love. Here’s how the Lord answered your prayers:

Location – Where in the City?

We were able to see every square inch of the city…multiple times. We also spoke with numerous pastors in the city who were able to share locations that had a particular need for new churches. We learned much and are still processing all the information. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll continue this conversation and further explore the areas in which we could potentially plant.

Links – With Whom in the City?

This may have been the greatest blessing of the trip – on Friday we were able to attend an Acts29 regional meeting, where we were able to connect with a number of like-minded pastors who are already doing a great work in the city. They were encouraging, but also realistic about the challenges that church planters face.

We were also able to connect with a number of Southern Baptist leaders, including Joe Beckler (part of the North American Mission Board) and Jim Shaddix (pastor of Riverside Baptist). Both these men were a great blessing to us.

We were also fortunate to be hosted for the weekend by Brad Hovis and his wife, Haley. Brad pastors High View Church, which is partnering with Denver2011. His knowledge of the city and passion to see other churches planted in Denver was incredible.

Love – Growing to Love the City

The city did not disappoint and was as beautiful and enjoyable as when we last left it. Being able to explore and study the city, as well as learn from its people, only further confirmed our call to plant in Denver. We are continuing to fall in love with this city and its people, and our hearts are growing with a passion to see the gospel take root there.

We thank you all for your prayers – the Lord was faithful to answer each of these requests.

Vision Trip: Today's the Day

Tonight we'll fly to Denver for our Vision Trip! A few updates before we head out:

- Thanks to all who committed to pray for our trip. Our goal was to find 100 individuals to pray for us and we ended up with at least 134!

- God has already been moving to answer your prayers. We'll have several key meetings and have great opportunities to be toured around the city by people who know it well.

- We will be posting several updates in the weeks following our trip, including photos and video.

- If you want to follow what we're doing in "real time" follow us on Twitter this weekend. We'll regularly be posting updates.

- Finally, below is an e-mail that went out yesterday to the 134 who committed to pray for our trip. Thanks to all who have been and will continue to be in prayer for us.

Dear Project100 Prayer Partners,

While our goal was originally to find 100 individuals commit to pray for our trip, I am thankful to be writing this to 134 of you. Needless to say, we feel very excited about 134 people interceding for us as we prepare to go to Denver this weekend.

As a reminder, our request is that you would pray for us in three specific ways for this trip: Location (finding where we’ll plant within the city), Links (developing partnerships with like-minded churches in the city), and Love (growing in our affection for the city and its people).

Please know that we are thankful for each of you committing to pray for us. I know that it’s easy to think that an e-mail or blog comment offering to pray doesn’t mean much, but for those of us preparing to move halfway across the country, every one of you who is behind us is a blessing.

If flights go smoothly, we’ll be touching down in Denver at 11:30 MST on Thursday night and returning to Raleigh-Durham at 11:30 EST Sunday night. In between, a whirlwind trip will take place where we’ll continue laying the foundation for our church plant to reach this great city with the gospel. Your prayers are a great blessing, and we look forward to telling you how God answered them when we return.

For the gospel,

The Denver2011 Team

We need your help

Next month the Denver2011 team will be traveling to Colorado for our second official “Vision Trip”…and we want you to be a part of it by joining our prayer team. Before we leave on January 14, our goal is to have 100 individuals committed to pray for us.

As followers of Jesus we believe that prayer—direct communication with our heavenly Father—is one of the greatest privileges offered us. It is an opportunity to humble ourselves before God and express our utter dependence on Him alone. And this is what we’re striving to be—a humble people dependent upon God.

Project100, therefore, is a call to prayer. We want you to partner with us in prayer as we prepare for and travel to Denver this coming January. So you will know exactly what to be praying for, we’ve got 3 specific issues we hope you’ll lift up on our behalf:

Location
Our first goal for this Vision Trip is to determine a specific location for Denver2011 to plant. With almost 80 distinct neighborhoods within the city of Denver, there are countless areas that we can focus on. We’re considering the people of Denver as a whole and their many different cultures, the spiritual and physical needs of the city, and our own gifts as we make this decision.

Pray that God will provide guidance and wisdom to make this decision clear during our Vision Trip.

Links
Our second goal for this Vision Trip is to link with other churches. While there aren’t many existing churches in urban Denver, we look to those who are present as partners in the gospel. Our desire is to connect with the existing churches, church planters, and missionaries in Denver and establish solid friendships that create a sense of unity and cooperation.

Pray that God will build and grow strong relationships with existing believers in the city so that a local support system may be established for Denver2011.

Love
Our third goal for this Vision Trip is to begin cultivating an ever-growing love for the people and city of Denver. We pray that God will put this love in our hearts so that we can view Denver as He does and joyfully look forward to the day we plant our lives here.

Pray that God will open our eyes and hearts so that we long for the salvation and restoration of Denver and are thrilled about our soon-to-be home.

Please consider committing yourself to prayer on behalf of Denver2011. We know that without God’s blessing our work is useless, so we are asking others to join with us as we seek his favor.

If you are interested in committing to praying for our trip, leave us a comment below or email denver2011@gmail.com to let us know that you're praying for us.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18
